Do Bad Things Always Happen For A Reason?

Someone said that recently - and it always makes me wonder, why - why does there have to be a purpose to bad things? Does it lend them more importance or make it easier to accept? I've had bad things happen to me and I cannot give them a reason for being, it didn't improve my life or make things better or even make me think. It was just bad and that's all it was. Sometimes I think if you don't give it meaning, just let it be a bad experience you can say "wow. that was bad, but it's over now" and get past it. Not to downplay the other end of it - I've had things happen that I thought were terrible at the time - but sometimes if you lose something you realize down the road you're better off without it and you no longer have to worry about it anymore. There is no shame in giving up on a bad job and moving on - and people don't like that concept either. Not everything in life works out, no matter how much you try or how much you want it to work, the solution can lie in the ability to say Enough, it's done - you cannot fix some things. There are things in your life that should be left unfixed because perhaps, in hindsight, maybe they never really worked in the first place. So maybe the next time a Bad Thing comes along, you should leave lie where it is and go on, because it's only as important as you make it.

you are 100% right, someone a lot smarter than I said this about the past, it is okay to look back but don't stare, I try to let all the bad things that have happened to me pass me by like the water when we stand by a brook, I have no control of the past I only have control over today and do the best I can with it, Dad

I think people do need to give it a reason to make it at least in their mind not seem so heavy. As for trying to fix it, in most cases it's unrealistic. You just have to own up to it. Life is made up of a series of bad, good, and everything in between. Once you see the full picture, it makes sense. (Hugs)Indigo

Life is difficult enough without trying to find some deeper meaning to every little event.
It took me a long time to realize that some things can't be fixed or changed, so the only thing you can do is change your perspective.
